2 Corinthians 4:8-9
8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
When you are bombarded on all sides by the pressures of this life, what do you produce? During these times, our true nature usually reveals itself. How we respond is evidence of our character and trust in God.
Problems have a way of never ending: a painful marriage, stressful employment, ongoing health issues, family problems, tragedies, etc. Problems tend to be persistent and would leave us in despair if it were not for the power of the Holy Spirit within.
We can murmur, complain, quit, and look for an easier life; but that’s not what God has called us to. Jesus made it clear that we would experience trials and tribulations. Be assured Saints, we are still safe in the hands of Christ, and are kept by the power of God. It is to God’s mercy we attribute our ability to bear and suffer so much. The Psalmist penned it well, “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side….”
The scripture that I lean on during my hard times is 1 John 4:4, “Greater is He that is in you, than He that is in the world”! We must press on and keep the faith, God knows what He is doing. The day will come when Jesus Christ will wipe away every tear.
